Bio

Defensive lineman Zykeius Strong first joined the Pirates after taking part in an open tryout. He was part of the team’s final cuts as they broke camp but rejoined the team before the April 24th game in Green Bay.

The 6’6”, 265 lb. native of Birmingham, AL played for the Houston Cougars from 2023 through 2024 and appeared in 24 games making 26 tackles with two tackles for a loss and one sack. He also defended two passes and forced one fumble.

Strong redshirted in 2022 but played 14 snaps in the Independence Bowl vs. Louisiana. In 2023 he appeared in all 12 games for the Cougars making one start. In 2024 he played in all 12 games again taking 223 snaps while making 19 tackles. According to Pro Football Focus Strong led the Houston defense with a tackling grade of 85.2. This tackling grade also led all edge rushers in the Big 12.

Strong began his collegiate career in Kansas at Hutchinson Community. In 2020 he played in one game making five tackles with 2.5 for a loss and forcing one fumble. In 2021 he recorded 26 tackles in nine games. Strong notched three sacks and 6.5 tackles for a loss with a forced fumble and a blocked kick.
